PIPE-AXE/TOMAHAWK

This great relic was said to have been donated to a Small New England Museum many years ago. It bears an aged sticker which says "Presented by Mr. Chas. Harreus, Stapleton, S.I.-Said to have been used during the revolution" The whole has been varnished which seems to have been a habit with museums in earlier times. The head is quite heavy and measures approximately 7" overall, not a casting, but forged and hand made. It appears to have leather between the haft and head. The hole is oval and the haft at the head has a plug which is near flush with the end of the haft. The overall length is about 20" and the haft is made of maple and appears original. There are no apparent makers marks. Seldom encountered

PEACE-PIPE TOMAHAWK

The head measures approx. 2 1/8" x 7 1/2 including the hexagonal bowl on this hand forged axe. The bowl probably from an old gun barrel. The haft which appears to be original is 18" in length with a small piece of bone for the mouthpiece. There are a few very small round headed brass tacks on each side. There is a small projection on the underside of the blade with a hole which gives the appearance of a bird and probably had a drop of some type attached to it. There is a piece of rawhide between the head and haft and the haft appears to have a tiger striping around it. Great age patina.

NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN ARROWS (SOUTHWEST)

There are four arrows, two very similar with colored paint pattern and each of the others appear to be different. They are similar in that the heads are made of what appears to be spring steel of the type used on old trunks of the pioneer period and secured with a flat binding material. There is some loss to the feather fletches but overall they are all in very good condition.
