This type of holster was primarily used by the North and while abundant just a few years ago, they are now almost never seen for sale. This example is dark brown and complete except for a replaced muzzle plug. The stitching is intact and the belt loop shows heavy use and has a small portion worn through at the fold. This is a very good example, very soft, with heavy crazing overall but very little loss of surface.

This book of almost 10 lbs. is approx. 12" x 17" amd was published by Mrs. F. Leslie in 1896. It is comprised of over 540 pages of illustrations of the civil war by many famous artists and illustrators of the time such as Becker, Crane, Beard, Russell etc. While the binding is coming apart, the prints are in excellent condition only slightly age discolored and certainly fine for reproduction or framing. We have given a couple of examples on the enlargement which appears if you click on the smaller image on this page. Seldom encountered this complete and scarce.

Exceptional condition is the only way to describe this very fine example. The leather is soft and pliable with all stitching secure and no breaks or loose areas to the leather throughout. There is a build up of green vertigris from years of storage where the leather comes in contact with the brass fittings which is normal and easily removed. The cartirdge loops are all intact with some darkening over the years which is also normal.

A beautiful, archival mounted, variant pattern of the St. Andrews Cross, being a non-regulation civil war flag with a verbal history of having come from a family in South Carolina. Some further details are contained in the report by “Textile Preservation Associates” accompanying this unique piece. The flag has been analized & archival preserved, by this firm from Sharpsburg, MD., under the supervision of renowned flag expert “ Fonda Thomsen” who has done similar work for the “Smithsonian Institute” , “The National Park Service”, the “Museum of the Confederacy”, the “Ohio Historical Society” as well as other museums & historical associations. Her complete report is with this lot with meticulous details of her findings & of the conservation efforts. The report states, “The result of this examination concludes the materials & methods of construction support a Civil War period of origin, & a home-made product. The condition of the flag suggests a period of use as witnessed by the report & from “McCrone & Associates” report, who have done a microscopic analysis of the residual particulate taken from the flag by the preservationist. They have identified flie ash probably from a coal burner or coal fire & vermillion used in paint coloring at that time. This report also accompanies the lot. It may be possible to complete further research, adding to the value, & provinence. The opportunity to own such a historic & fragile relic, from the Confederate side of the Civil War, seldom is brought to the collecting public. Also included is the original standard on which the flag was fastened which is about 8 feet long and also the colored silk streamers, which were fastened to the standard.

An outstanding pair of solid brass Officers Spurs with beautifully sculptured bow. Both showing little use. The rowels in perfect condition with some minor surface rust (easily removed). Getting very difficult to locate in any condition. No markings but definitely Civil War period.

Impossible to find to-day, this is an example that has survived in far above average condition. While the surface has cracked with some minor flaking the overall is fine and supple with only some loss to one end of the portion that attaches to the buckle but does restrict the belts use.
