This is a stock badge measuring 2 1/4" overall and is stamped on the back in an oval "J.P. Cooke Co., Mfr's, Omaha". It is die cut from German silver with stamped lettering filled with black enamel. AUTHENTIC EARLY POLICE BADGE - DUG UP
Obviously not jeweller made this crude example appears to have lain on the ground for many years. The back is heavily corroded and shows the impression of having had some type of pin at one time. The front does not show this heavy corrosion and must have been protected like under floorboards or some other type of covering. Comes from a well known collection.

ORIGINAL ANTIQUE CITY MARSHAL BADGE
Showing only slight use, this badge is approx. 2 1/4" high with a pin type used from the 20's. It is a cast "Stock Type" and appears to be nickel silver. Under the eagle is the word "Marshal" and "City of Lawson" around the "State of Missouri" shield in the centre and "Missouri" in a band on the bottom. The recessed letters were originally filled with black enamel, most of which has worn off. There is some paper on the back from an old sticker. A nice badge from a desireable area.

PROHIBITION ERA D.U.S.M. BADGE
Original Die struck, Brass shield, 2 1/8" high, surmounted by an eagle with a background of stars. Original gold wash barely perceptible. The one piece wire pin is broken off and the maker's mark appears to be covered by the solder used to secure the pin. A very busy period for the D.U.S.M.'s offices as well as historically significant.

ORIGINAL (DUG) CITY MARSHAL BADGE
Verbal history has this badge as being found in Idaho. It is die struck and probably nickel plated originally. It has survived in fine condition and one may be able to see a slight bit of the maker's mark. It has had a safety pin added at some time and the solder has obscured most of the back. An exceptionally nice patina has developed on the copper over the years. I would expect this to date from Late 1890's to the 20's.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY (could be San Benito or San Bernardino also) CALIFORNIA - DEPUTY SHERIFF'S BADGE
This fine example measures 2" tip to tip of the six points. It is what is classified as a "Stock" badge. That is it was stamped in quantity and then upon ordering the manufacturer would add the County name. In this case "S.B.". The manufacturer has stamped his name which appears on the back "ED JONES, Oakland, CAL. Guaranteed 100% original, the back retains the original copper "Saddle Back" plate which is rectangular not oval and a portion of the original copper pin. The balance of the pin has broken off at some time & a nickel pin has been attached which can be seen protruding to the upper left on the photo. This badge appears to be nickel silver and has black enamel in the recesses of the imprint. I would place this badge in the 1920's.

ANTIQUE DEPUTY SHERRIF BADGE
I would guess this one to be circa 1920's. It is stamped on the reverse "LA RUBBER STAMP CO. LOS ANGELES, CAL." and also a german silver stamped generic example. There is hole in the centre which probably had a number secured to it. The pin on the back is also missing, otherwise condition is very good.

CITY MARSHAL - DEXTER, KANSAS
This small town currently boasts a population of less than 400 persons however it was incorporated about 1875 and at one time the county in which it resides had in excess of 20,000 people. This is a typical shield stamped from a sheet of German Silver and then hand engraved (probably by a local jeweller). It has what appears to be the original pin secured with a typical roller type catch. This probably dates it in the 1920's or slightly later. The engraving style is earlier indicating that the engraver was elderly. While the overall shows wear it is in fine original condition.
